The Introduction to Travel Health Course comprises two days learning and follows the curriculum for registered healthcare practitioners as described in the 'Good Practice Guidance for Providing a Travel Health Service' document from the Faculty of Travel Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.  The Ten Point Framework of topics for inclusion describing essential training for travel medicine can be viewed from page 33 of the publication (see the link above).  This e learning course will take you through these topics, and if you choose to explore all the material, it will increase your knowledge further than a two day face to face training programme would have time for.  Please note: you have EIGHT weeks to complete the course and explore all the resources within the time allocation to complete this course.  If you complete the training early, you will continue to have access to the training until the expiry date.   Therefore please purchase the course when you know you are ready to start the training.   If you are a Manager booking this course on behalf of one of your employees, you should now be able to purchase the course on behalf of someone else by adding it to the shopping basket.  At this stage, you will see a message that says 'If you are purchasing for someone else or require bulk purchasing click here' which leads you to instructions to have the option to choose how many places you want and include users names.  Upon payment, you will receive an e mail with a link and login codes for each place on the course, to share with learners.  If you have any problems please contact me at jane@janechiodini.co.uk  Please note, from 1st March 2023, this course has been accredited by the CPD Certification Service.  The logo of proof will be also included on the learner's Certificate of Completion.   Details about the author and course creator - Jane Chiodini MBE Jane was the first nurse in England to obtain a the Masters degree in travel medicine.  She is a leading figure in the UK in this field of practice, was Chair of the RCN Travel Health Forum 2000 - 2006 and lead author on the RCN guidance: Travel health nursing, career and competence development.  Jane was Dean of the Faculty of Travel Medicine from October 2018 – October 2021.  Until the COVID-19 pandemic Jane was seeing travellers in a primary care setting where she has worked since 1990 and has always supported General Practice Nurses. Travel health is a fast moving field of practice and although services were severely impacted with the COVID-19 pandemic, travellers are seeking advice once more and practitioners are very busy again.  It is recommended to undertake a travel health update, ideally annually, although when you have to focus on many other areas of care this isn't always possible.  This online platform has been created by Jane Chiodini to help the learner update, but at their own pace and at a time suitable to them.   The learner can also revisit lectures and resources as often as needed, within the timeframe allowed on the platform.  This learning includes videos, vibrant interactive e learning sections, reading, resources, time out activities and so much more - all created by Jane !   Topics addressed within this learning programme:  Climate change and the impact on travel health Arboviral infections (malaria, dengue, Zika and TBE) The Challenging traveller (older and last minute travellers)  Test your vaccine knowledge (including travel vaccines and immunisation issues ) Travel health news - past and present (including measles and polio) Best practice in delivering travel health (including FAQs) Case studies (four complex cases) How do I?  The course comprises 8 hours of learning but you will have 4 weeks in which to complete it.  If you finish before this timescale you continue to have access to the platform until the date of expiry.  The opportunity to ask questions and engage with an online forum to answer your questions is available but no online meetings are required for this course - you can study it at your own pace when it suits you.  There is also a facility to e mail Jane directly within the platform if you have any queries arising from the training.     PLEASE NOTE: the four weeks to complete the course starts when you purchase the training so please time this for when you want to begin. Upon payment, you wiil receive an e mail with a link and login codes for each place on the course, to share with learners.  If you have any problems please contact me at janechiodini@icloud.com    Details about the author and course creator - Jane Chiodini MBE Jane was the first nurse in England to obtain a the Masters degree in travel medicine.  She is a leading figure in the UK in this field of practice, was Chair of the RCN Travel Health Forum 2000 - 2006 and one of the key authors on the RCN guidance: Travel health nursing, career and competence development.  Jane was Dean of the Faculty of Travel Medicine from October 2018 – October 2021.  Until the COVID-19 pandemic Jane was seeing travellers in a primary care setting where she has worked since 1990 and has always supported General Practice Nurses. This short learning is part of one module from the current Travel Health Update course offered by Jane Chiodini. This has been provided in conjunction with a recent Travel Health Update in Practice Nurse Journal found here.  The original intention was to provide this module of learning on the two dilemmas described, but I decided to provide access to all five dilemmas free of charge on this occasion, because I appreciate it is an issue for some practitioners working in a primary care setting in particular.  The five scenarios are: GP Surgery refusing to provide a travel service GP service only giving the travel vaccines but not performing a risk assessment or giving advice One nurse performing a risk assessment and then passing on the task of giving the vaccine(s) and advice to colleague Follow up doses of vaccine - who should be performing this?  Writing of a PSD - who should take responsibility for the task? The scenarios are discussed in a digital platform which includes not only a presentation with a voiceover, but also the notes and quick access to interesting resources.   A handout is available to keep including the weblinks to many of the resources mentioned, along with other materials which will be of use within your day to day practice.   PLEASE NOTE: you will have one week to complete the course which starts when you purchase the training - this is being given to you free of charge.  So please time this for when you want to begin the education - it won't take long to study.   ON COMPLETION: a certificate for one hour of learning will be provided.     Details about the author and course creator - Jane Chiodini MBE Jane was the first nurse in England to obtain a the Masters degree in travel medicine.
